Carl Fredrik Ridderstad
Carl Fredrik Ridderstad (born October 18, 1807 in Rådmansö ( Stockholms län ), † August 12, 1886 in Linköping ) was a Swedish journalist , writer and politician .
life and work
Carl Fredrik Ridderstad, son of the court stable master Carl Fredrik Ridderstad and the Märta Charlotta Hedvig Wallenstråle, first entered the military career in 1821, but left in 1840 to devote himself to literary work. He settled in Linköping, where he has since edited one of the most respected provincial newspapers , the Östgöta Correspondents , and has worked as a publisher. From 1844 to 1868 he also took part in the political affairs of Sweden as a free-thinking member of the Reichstag . He died on August 12, 1886 at the age of 78 in Linköping.
Ridderstad was lyric poems (2 vols., Linköping 1856-58) and short stories (3 vols. Linköping 1849), also wrote several plays, which were performed with applause, but later turned almost exclusively to the novel and increased in this area has a respectable place in Swedish literature . Among his novels, most of which are embedded in Swedish history and thus represent forerunners of the historical novel , have been translated into German:

Ridderstad's portrayal is somewhat broad, and his characters are not infrequently lacking in clear drawing; but he commands a rich and powerful imagination, and his creations are full of life and warmth.
