Carl Friedrich Brügelmann

Carl Friedrich Brügelmann (born August 16, 1758 in Elberfeld (now part of Wuppertal ), † May 25, 1824 in Düsseldorf ) was a merchant on the Au zu Elberfeld and from 1792 mayor of Elberfeld. He wrote his name as Karl Friedrich Br ö Gelman .

Life

Brügelmann was born as the son of Elberfeld merchant and councilor Johann Wilhelm Brügelmann (1721–1784) and his wife Maria Kersten (1723–1799), the daughter of Conrad Kerstens . He himself also began as a merchant on the Au in Elberfeld and was elected mayor in 1792. In 1793 he became city judge and in 1794 council relative of Elberfeld.

Brögelmann was married to Johanna Charlotta von Carnap. The couple had two children, a son and a daughter. The daughter Amalie (* 1798) married Heinrich Ferdinand Philipp von Sybel in 1815 . In 1813, after the French had been defeated and driven out, Brügelmann was appointed General Civil Governor of the liberated areas by the advancing Russians. After a short time he gave up his post and moved to Düsseldorf with his family .
