Carl Geibel (publisher, 1806)
Friedrich Wilhelm Carl Geibel (born August 25, 1806 in Halle , † October 6, 1884 in Illenau ) was a German bookseller and publisher.
After completing an apprenticeship as a bookseller with Wilhelm Lauffer in Leipzig , Geibel moved to Budapest and became an assistant in the Hartleben bookstore. There he opened his own bookshop in 1841. Because of the failed revolution of 1848 and the subsequent purges, he moved to Leipzig in 1850. Here he continued his bookstore under the name of Karl Geibel . He published a tragedy in Sicily by Friedrich Hebbel . In 1866 he and his son Carl Geibel took over the Berlin-based publishing house Duncker & Humblot , whose headquarters they relocated to Leipzig.
