Carl Heinz Loewen

Carl Heinz Löwen , also CH Löwen , (born April 19, 1912 in Elberfeld , † September 25, 1997 in Krefeld ) was a German dentist , surgeon and occupational physician .

Live and act

Carl Heinz Löwen spent his youth in Elberfeld and married Hildegard Gertrud Weerth (* 1914) in 1935.

After graduating from high school in February 1931, he studied dentistry at the University of Cologne . Four years later he did his doctorate in dentistry with the thesis on the diagnosis and therapy of oral mucosal tuberculosis.

He then worked as a research assistant in the dental department of IG Farben in Leverkusen, which opened in 1934 . In this role he shot technical films on behalf of the pharmaceuticals department of IG Farben and in cooperation with UFA . In 1938/39 and for a few months in 1943 he took over the pharmaceutical representation of IG Farben in Istanbul . On behalf of the company, he built the dental station and the station for dental care for the forced laborers of IG Farben in Leverkusen from 1943 and also became head of the facilities.

From 1943 to 1946 he studied (part-time and part-time) general medicine at the University of Cologne and received his doctorate in 1946 under Hellmut Weese at the University of Düsseldorf (effect and tolerance of endogenous and exogenous blood substitutes). He then went to specialist training until around 1952 at the Drei-Königinnen-Hospital in Cologne-Mülheim with Professor Hermann Bremer, with whom he published during this time. In 1953, at Ulrich Haberland's request , he moved to Krefeld as head of the works medical department (works doctor ) at the Uerdingen plant.

After the war, in 1949 he co-founded the company medical working group , later renamed the Association of German Company Doctors and then the “ Association of German Company and Company Doctors ”. He was 2nd chairman of the association until October 1973 and was then elected as a member of the board. In 1975 he was made an honorary member of the association. In 1976, after the announcement in 1975, he resigned his position as 2nd chairman of the association.

After 40 years of service at Bayer, from 1975 he continued to work as a medical expert for the LVA Rhine Province .

In 1974 he received the Federal Cross of Merit.

As an occupational physician and representative of the association, Carl Heinz Löwen was significantly involved in the social and political profile of occupational medicine (works doctor) in the young Federal Republic of Germany and contributed to the development of the specialty in university medical training to become a specialist in occupational medicine.
