Carl Hellström, who was a member of Göteborgs Kungliga Segelsällskap , took part in two Olympic Games . In 1908 he was the skipper of the Vinga in London in the 8-meter class , which sailed for the medals with four other boats. Since the overall result was based on the best result of the individual races, the Vinga was not in the medal ranks after a fifth and a fourth place in the first two races. In the third and final race, however, she managed a victory, so that she was behind the twice-victorious British boat Cobweb from skipper Blair Cochranetook second place. Hellström and his crew members Eric Sandberg , Edmund Thormählen , Erik Wallerius and Harald Wallin thus won the silver medal. At the Olympic Games in Stockholm in 1912 , Hellström was Olympic champion in the 10-meter class . This time he was a crew member of the Kitty , which took first place in both races of the regatta and won the competition in front of the Finnish boat Nina and the Russian boat Gallia II . The Kitty's crew also included Erik Wallerius, Paul Isberg , Humbert Lundén , Herman Nyberg , Harry Rosenswärd and Harald Wallin. Filip Ericsson was the skipper of the boat .
