Carl Kiesewetter

Carl Kiesewetter (born April 14, 1854 , † April 15, 1895 in Meiningen ; also Karl Kiesewetter ) was a German occultist , theosophist and author of esoteric works. He also published under his Latinized name Carolus Kiesewetterus .

Kiesewetter lived in Meiningen and was a member of the theosophical lodge Germania . He wrote numerous articles for the theosophical journal Sphinx and was considered one of the most creative and effective occult writers of his time. For his works on the history of occultism, he sifted through numerous sources and presented important material for later parapsychology .

Kiesewetter also experimented with alchemy , natural drugs and witch ointments . He found that rubbing in with the nightshade alkaloid hyoscyamine, which he himself described, evoked visions of flying and eventually died in a self- experiment with henbane .
