Carl Kneiff

Carl Friedrich Kneiff (born November 14, 1829 in Nordhausen ; † September 6, 1902 there ) was a German entrepreneur and botanist.

He was the son of Carl August Kneiff (1800–1866) and Friederike Christiane Volborn (1801–1871).

Together with his brother Rudolph Kneiff, he had been the owner of the CAKneiff tobacco factory since 1862. In 1875, Kneiff commissioned Heinrich Siesmayer to design the Hohenrode Park . In 1874 he had commissioned Ludwig Bohnstedt to design the “ Villa Kneiff ”, which he did not move into until 1894.

In 1873 Kneiff was elected as a member of the Nordhausen Chamber of Commerce .

Kneiff was one of the founding members of the German Dendrological Society . In 1896, Kneiff was accepted into the Association for the Promotion of Horticulture . In 1896 the botanist Hermann Zabel named a new variety of the forest goatee after Kneiff : Aruncus sylvester Kosteletzky var. Kneifii Zabel , also mentioned as Spiraea aruncus var. Kneifii .

On September 21, 1850 first wedding with Frieder Dorothee Auguste Siemann and the second wedding followed on September 15, 1863 with Olga Stegemann. One brother is the grandfather of Erika Schatte, Heimo Isbert's wife .
