In 1822 he returned to Germany and first joined the Kassel association and then the Hanoverian court theater association.

Here he worked until his death, he died suddenly struck by a blow during a rehearsal.

In 1815 he married the singer Philippine Bessel (1776-1820). a daughter of the actor Johann Friedrich Bessel (1755–1833) from Berlin, who brought him a fortune. After the death of his first wife, he married Margaretha Elisabeth Werther in Riga in 1822, the divorced wife of the actor Karl Eduard Pauli.

His sons were the actors August Paulmann (1827–1885) and Julius Paulmann , who was married to Hulda Emilie Klotz , his daughter-in-law. Their children and granddaughters were Leontine Paulmann and Therese Paulmann .
