Carl Martius

Carl Martius (born March 1, 1906 in Striegau (today, Polish: Strzegom), Silesia; † April 10, 1993 in Meilen , Canton of Zurich) was a German biochemist .

Martius was a full professor at the ETH Zurich from 1956 to 1976 . In 1961 he became a corresponding member of the Bavarian Academy of Sciences .

In 1949 he was awarded the Adolf Fick Prize and later in 1969 the Otto Warburg Medal . In 1955 he was elected a member of the Leopoldina .

With Hans Adolf Krebs and Franz Knoop , he clarified the reaction sequence of the citric acid cycle in 1937 .
