Karl Mellinger

Karl Mellinger (born November 26, 1858 in Mainz , † May 21, 1917 in Basel ) was a German ophthalmologist .

Life

Mellinger was a son of the Mainz manufacturer Dr. Carl Mellinger. After attending grammar school in his hometown Mainz, he studied medicine at the universities of Zurich and Basel . In Zurich he became a member of the Corps Tigurinia . In 1887 he received his doctorate in Basel. med. In 1896 he became an associate professor, in 1900 a full professor of ophthalmology at the University of Basel. From 1897 to 1917 he was also the chief physician of the eye clinic founded by Heinrich Schiess-Gemuseus.
