from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Johann Carl Erdmann Menzel (born January 7, 1844 in Sorau , † June 8, 1923 in Lommatzsch ) was a German entrepreneur. He is considered to be the founder of glass production in Lommatzsch.

After many years of activity in glass production, in 1897 he set up his own glass factory called "Carlswerk" in Lommatzsch . The “Lommatzscher Glas” was soon valued internationally. In 1917 Carl Menzel became a commercial councilor and in 1920 an honorary citizen of the city of Lommatzsch. Later a street in the village was named after him.

Menzel is the great-grandfather of the actor Terence Hill (also an honorary citizen of Lommatzsch).
