Carl Mitcham

Carl Mitcham (born September 20, 1941 ) is a technology philosopher and university professor.

Act

After studying at the University of Colorado (BA, MA) and doing a PhD at Fordham University, Mitcham taught at Berea College (Kentucky), St. Catharine College (Kentucky), Brooklyn Polytechnic University and Pennsylvania State University before becoming a professor at the Colorado School of Mines , where he worked until his retirement in 2015.

Mitcham's disciplinary background is in philosophy, with an emphasis on the philosophy and ethics of science and technology . In his publications, he also advocated introducing philosophical approaches into the field of Studies in Science, Technology and Society ( STS ). More recent work has a focus on science policy and philosophy of technology.

In November 2006 he was awarded the ethics prize of the World Technology Network WTN.
