from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Carl Naumann (born June 28, 1872 , † March 2, 1949 ) was a German puppeteer .

Life

Naumann was the son of a master weaver from Meerane and studied painting , graphics , lithography and porcelain painting with a royal scholarship at the Dresden School of Applied Arts . In Leipzig he bought the "CW Loewe" printing company.

He joined the alternative youth movement, the " Wandervogel ", and in 1929 moved to Rehehausen in the Naumburg district . There he founded a youth hostel and in 1933 opened Germany's first village puppet theater. Puppeteers were family members, friends and also villagers. With his puppets, backdrops and light effects, “Father Naumann” entertained the visitors, mainly school classes from the area and from Leipzig.

After his death, his daughters Gertrud Hahlbohm and Ilse Pludra took over the management, which became increasingly difficult during the GDR era. In 1958 the city of Naumburg took over the theater, and it still exists today as the “ Kleine Bühne Naumburg ”.
