Carl Philipp Schatte , later von Schatte (born April 10, 1746 in Bensberg , † June 7, 1833 in Wermelskirchen ) was an electoral Palatinate administrator of the ducal Bergische Amt Bornefeld - Hückeswagen .

Life

He was the son of Michael Arnold Schatte (around 1710-1790), clerk to Bensberg and Porz , and Anna Margaretha Michels and was baptized on November 19, 1746 as the eldest son in the Catholic Church in Bensberg. His family coat of arms shows a jumping cat ( French: chat ). When he was raised to the nobility is unknown.

Schatte was initially a representative of the bailiff and thus of the Duke of Berg, i.e. the Palatinate Elector Karl Theodor . The function corresponded roughly to that of a district administrator with the qualification for judicial office. As a lawyer he represented Altenberg Abbey before the court of the office.

Franz Adolf Freiherr von Nagel zu Nagelsgaul , Electoral Palatinate bailiff at Hückeswagen and Bornefeld, then handed over the administration of the two offices to Schatte on March 20, 1780. On October 13, 1807, the administration of the office in the Grand Duchy of Berg was in fact superfluous due to the abolition of the previous division of offices . In 1812, Schatte said he had no position. He lived in Wermelskirchen, today Kölner Strasse 30, across from the confluence with Schillerstrasse.

Schatte married Anna Lucia Helena Jäger (1771-1812 / 1813) on February 22, 1790 in Wermelskirchen .

Schattes Erben auctioned off his estate to the value of 6,210 thalers .

  3. His siblings, all like him born in Bensberg, were Johann Christoph Martial Caspar Joseph (* 1747), Johann Bernhard Rudolph Franziskus (* 1750), Maria Anna Florentina Albertina (* 1753), Maria Elisabeth Franziska Carolina (* 1755), Franziskus Michael Werner Joseph (* 1757), Johann Adolph Ferdinand Joseph (* 1758) and Maria Clara Theresia Johanna (* 1763). - All information according to the Mormon Internet archive (www.familysearch.org). All siblings are registered as “de Schatte” or “von Schatte”, and the father is also called that here occasionally.
  4. The GHdA Adelslexikon (vol. XII / 2001, page 339) names the electoral Palatinate official Edmund Ferdinand Schatte as the only bearer of the name raised to the hereditary nobility and baron class , who was raised to the imperial nobility status in 1760 and to the Palatinate baron status in 1783 ; see: Schatte . According to the family coat of arms, Carl Philipp belongs to this family, but not to the line that has been raised to the baron class. It is possible that he was only raised to the personal lower nobility (see also here ).
