Carl Schmid (engineer)

Carl Schmid (born November 5, 1894 in Ennetbaden , † April 13, 1988 in Thônex ), Catholic , entitled to live in Oberehrendingen , today part of the Ehrendingen community , was a Swiss engineer .

Life

Family and work

Carl Schmid, son of Karl Schmid senior and the Marie-born Volliman, devoted himself to filed Matura studying engineering at the ETH Zurich , where he graduated with a diploma. Schmid then moved to Geneva in 1918 , where he took up an engineering position at the electrical engineering company Société Anonyme des Ateliers de Sécheron , for which he worked until he retired. Carl Schmid, who was married to Marguerite, the daughter of Henri Zbinden, died in Thônex in 1988 at the age of 93.

In 1929 Carl Schmid invented the lead holder with a clamp mechanism that made it possible to use leads of different diameters. In the following year, the Geneva-based stationery company Caran d'Ache acquired the patent and marketed the pen under the brand name Fixpencil, which still exists today.
