Carl Schneider (theologian, 1870)

Carl Schneider (born February 22, 1870 in Werschweiler / Saar , † January 31, 1943 in Hamburg ) was a Baptist theologian and lecturer in practical theology at the seminary of the German Baptists in Hamburg-Horn .

Life

After completing his school education and apprenticeship, Carl Schneider came to Berlin as a journeyman, where he met the Baptists. After a special conversion experience, he was baptized and a few years later his congregation recommended him to study at the Baptist seminary in Hamburg-Horn. After his studies, which he completed from 1895 to 1899, the Baptist congregation in Hamburg-Eilbek called him to be their preacher. In 1911 Schneider moved to the Dresden community . He stayed there until 1920 and then returned to Eilbek for two years.

In 1922 the Union of German Baptists appointed him administrative director and householder of its theological training center in Hamburg-Horn. At the same time he was given a lectureship in practical theology, which he held until his retirement in 1939. His particular interest was here the service whose liturgical enrichment and a pastorally oriented homiletics .

In addition to his pastoral, administrative and teaching duties, Carl Schneider was active in important management functions of the German Baptist Union, for example from 1905 as a member of the United Federal Baptist Administration. Schneider also worked in a responsible position in the diaconal area. Among other things, he was chairman of the Deaconess House of Siloam .
