Carl Schuster (journalist)

Carl Schuster (born October 2, 1907 in Kaiserslautern , † March 21, 2004 in Munich ) was a German journalist and writer.

Life

Carl Schuster was born in Kaiserslautern. He graduated from business school, trained as a bookseller and trained as a publishing bookseller. He worked for publishing houses in Berlin, Heidelberg and Neustadt an der Weinstrasse. In autumn 1937 he moved to Munich, where he worked as a lecturer . In December 1939 he was drafted and after his training as a radio operator in Landsberg am Lech he came with Artillery 2/636, a 21st mortar unit, first to France to the Maginot Line and then to Russia to the Demjansk fortress . On January 4, 1943, he was seriously wounded by a tank shell. After his recovery, he worked from February 1944 as a publishing manager at the Junker and Dünnhaupt publishing house in Dessau .

On August 5, 1945, Carl Schuster was arrested by the Russian secret police, allegedly for participating in the establishment of a liberal-democratic party. He was released from prison on September 28, 1945 and fled to the West. After his return to Munich in early 1945, he was one of the first to receive permission from the American occupation forces to do journalistic work in Munich.

Carl Schuster worked as a freelance journalist and book author. He mainly wrote as a Munich correspondent for Die Rheinpfalz and the Rhein-Neckar-Zeitung . At times he worked as a freelancer for ten different newspapers, wrote articles on politics and art. For almost 50 years he was the editor-in-chief of the " Voice of the Palatinate " magazine , a regional cultural magazine that he had built up from 1950. In the summer of 1976 he organized an exhibition in the Bavarian State Parliament in Munich to mark the 200th anniversary of the USA , on the occasion of the victory at the Battle of Yorktown , in which a Palatinate regiment was also involved.

He wrote numerous articles, including under the pseudonyms C .Th. Sutor , Simon Faber and Alexander Ludovici . For the 70th birthday of the President of the Bavarian State Parliament, Rudolf Hanauer , he published a book entitled “Search for a Better World”. He wrote these speeches as a ghostwriter for Hanauer between 1960 and 1978.

In 1948/49 he was a founding member of the association " Bund der Pfalzfreunde in Bayern" and the "Landesverband der Pfälzer Bayern", which runs the Palatinate wine tavern in the Munich residence.

Schuster was married to Hildegard Schuster, born in 1951. Peschke and had two children. He died on March 21, 2004, his urn is in the north cemetery in Munich .
