Carl Soule ( 1906 - December 21, 1988 in Fairfax Station , Virginia ) was an American Methodist theologian .

Life

Soule attended Anadarko High School , which he successfully graduated in 1932. After that he ran theological and philosophical studies and became a Doctor of Philosophy PhD . He lived in Chicago during those years . In 1958, at the time of the atomic confrontation, he made contact with the Nobel Prize laureate for chemistry , Linus Pauling , who had been campaigning against the continuation of above-ground nuclear weapons tests since 1957 with great public response . In a letter he asked Pauling to speak at a meeting of the Regional Christian Social Relations Briefing Conference.

From his church, Soule was sent to the United Nations in 1960 , where he served as Executive Secretary of the United Methodist Service within the framework of the UN Church Center. At the same time he represented the "US Committee for the Christian Peace Conference since" 1965 and took over the representation of the Christian Peace Conference when it was recognized by the UN as an NGO and received status as a member of ECOSOC . Sooul's greatest challenge was helping to build the church center, which opened in 1963. Soule was also the first representative of CAREE , the Christians Associated for Relationship with Eastern Europe .

During the Cold War , he sought to maintain ties with the peoples of Eastern Europe. Significant highlights along this path were the 50th anniversary of the Russian October Revolution in 1967 or a little later, in 1968, a “day of dialogue” with Marxist humanism in the guise of the Czech philosopher Milan Machovec . He worked at the UN Church Center until he retired in 1972.

Carl Soule succumbed to cancer and died in his daughter's house. He was married, father of a daughter and grandfather of two grandchildren.
