Jakob Stahl founded the Stahl rope factory in Süßen in 1880 . This was taken over in the following years by his son Carl Stahl and his son-in-law, followed in 1930 by his grandson Carl II. The company had no more than 6 employees until 1966. Willy Schwenger joined the management team in 1966, the son-in-law of Carl II. In the years that followed, he expanded the company into an international company in the rope, lifting and safety industries. During this time, numerous new buildings were built at the Süßen site. The first subsidiaries were founded in 1978. In 1999 Carl Stahl bought the distribution rights for the Nokkon Bowden System . A year later, Kromer GmbH became part of the Carl Stahl group of companies. In 2004 there was a generation change at the Süßen location, from that point on the managing directors were Andreas Urbez, Willy Schwenger and Wolfgang Schwenger. With the new construction of the administration building in Süßen, a separation was made between operational and strategic areas. In 2015, the Lifting Technology, Architecture and Technocables divisions became the new companies Carl Stahl Hebetechnik GmbH, Carl Stahl ARC GmbH and Carl Stahl Technocables GmbH.
