Carl Stearns Clancy
Carl Stearns Clancy (born August 8, 1890 in Epping, Rockingham County , New Hampshire , † January 1971 in Alexandria , Virginia ) was an American author, director, film producer and adventurer. Together with Walter Storey, he made the first circumnavigation of the world on a motorcycle.
Life
Carl Clancy's father was from Ireland and his mother from Massachusetts . Carl grew up in Massachusetts, worked as a copywriter, married in California in 1916, and later moved to New York. From 1922 to 1928 he was the director and producer of 13 films with Will Rogers and wrote screenplays. He also wrote two non-fiction books.
In the autumn of 1912 he announced in the magazine Bicycle World and Motorcycle Review that he would go around the world on a motorcycle for the first time with Walter Storey. The journey lasted ten months and covered a distance of 18,000 miles from Philadelphia via Dublin through Africa, Asia via Hawaii back to the USA and ended in New York. For the trip, Clancy and Storey used two Henderson motorcycles with 8 hp.
