Carl Thalenhorst

Carl Friedrich Albert Thalenhorst (born December 14, 1875 in Bremen ; † October 26, 1964 Bremen) was a German civil engineer , building official and Bremen senator .

biography

Thalenhorst was the son of a captain and spent part of his childhood in Bremerhaven . After completing his degree in civil engineering at the Technical University of Hanover in 1897 , he entered the Bremen civil service and became site manager for port construction in Bremen and Bremerhaven. Most recently, he was a board member of the Sewerage Office. On July 9, 1920, Thalenhorst became Senator for Building Management and City Expansion. He belonged to the German Democratic Party (DDP). On April 1, 1931, he resigned as a senator.

On December 20, 1943, his parents' house and home in downtown Bremen were destroyed by a direct hit in a bomb attack. He moved with his family to Rohrsen near Nienburg / Weser. The only thing that was saved is said to have been his stamp collection. That is why he gave Rohrsener pupils lessons in postage stamp studies and also took on a vacancy for a teaching position at the elementary school. Other family members followed Thalenhorst to Rohrsen. The entire family only moved back to Bremen after the war. In 1952 he was editor of the Bremen plant and its buildings 1900–1951 .

Thalenhorststrasse in Bremen- Osterholz is named after him.
