Carl Wilhelm Hingst (born February 28, 1814 in Tragnitz , † December 26, 1885 in Leisnig ) was a church school teacher and recognized local historian in what is now the Central Saxony district .

Life

Hingst was initially a trainee in Tragnitz near Leisnig in 1834 and was a church school teacher there in 1835. From 1845 to 1879 Hingst was a church school teacher and cantor in Zschaitz .

The focus of his historical research based on extensive source work was the medieval history of the city and administrative districts Leisnig, Döbeln and Freiberg . The extensive chronicle of Döbeln and the surrounding area , published in 1872, is still regarded as a standard work and appeared again in 1999 as a reprint.

Hingst was a corresponding member of the Leisniger history and antiquity society and an honorary member of the Freiberg and Dresden antiquity society.

Hingst's scientific legacy in the Mildenstein Castle archive is still largely untapped.

family

Hingst's older brother, pastor Friedrich August Hingst (born March 16, 1812 in Tragnitz; † May 24, 1848 in Machern) is the father of the royal Saxon lieutenant general Paul von Hingst (1846-1919).
