Carl Wilhelm Nettstraeter (born July 24, 1805 in Brilon , Sauerland , † June 21, 1872 in Cochem ) was a German pharmacist , landowner and politician.

life and career

His parents were Georg Heinrich Nettstraeter († 1834) and Maria Gertrud Schigard. Also in 1834, the native Westphalian Carl Wilhelm Nettstraeter married Anna Maria Zöller (1804–1835). She was the daughter of the chemist Johann Peter Zöller and Anna Catharina Friederichs from Cochem. In his second marriage he was married to Margarethe Ziegelmayer (1808–1871). In the revolutionary year of 1848/1849 Wilhelm Nettstraeter was the leading head of the moderate liberals in Cochem. On March 23, 1848 he was used as the senior executive of the newly founded vigilante group. From March 31 to April 3, 1848 he represented the city of Cochem in the Frankfurt pre-parliament together with Hugo Keiffenheim . In the May elections in 1848, as a representative of the middle class and civil servants, he had no chance against the Democrats under Boost and Keiffenheim. In January 1849 he was a co-founder of the Democratic Constituent Association, which, as a government-friendly (black and white) collection movement in Cochem, had no influence. Its political restart took place in the so-called New Era of 1861. New Era is a term for a Prussian government policy in the years 1858 to 1862. In a by-election in the constituency 5 Mayen -Cochem, Nettstraeter was sent to the Prussian House of Representatives for Wegeler Koblenz (old liberal faction of Vincke). Nettstraeter headed the liberal election committee for almost a decade. In 1867 he turned to the National Liberals, but was defeated by Pastor BW Gommelshausen in the elections for the Prussian state parliament in 1867.
