De Keyzer's working method is characterized by the effective use of flash light, which is reminiscent of the lighting in the paintings of Flemish masters. He does not stage his pictures, i. In other words, he does not specifically set up the people in his pictures, but rather accentuates his photos through the conscious use of light. Often his pictures seem posed, but they are not. According to his own statement, he would not even take an annoying Coke can off a table, but either take the picture with the can or do without the picture entirely. He has consciously set this limit of non-intervention, otherwise there is always the risk of making new compromises to justify a change for a photo.
