Carl von Diebitsch
Carl Wilhelm von Diebitsch (born January 13, 1819 in Liegnitz , † June 15, 1869 in Cairo ) was a Prussian architect .
Carl von Diebitsch initially received military training in the Potsdam Cadet Institute , which he broke off in 1839 to enter the Berlin Building Academy , where Schinkel was taught in the tradition . After completing his studies, he traveled to Italy, France, Algeria and finally to Granada in Spain in 1842 , where he studied the Alhambra and in 1847 met Wilhelm Gentz . In 1862 he was invited to Cairo by the Egyptian viceroy Ismail Pasha , where he received various commissions.
He died in Cairo in 1869; his grave is in the English cemetery there.
