The Moorish Kiosk is a pavilion in the palace gardens of Linderhof Palace .

history

The kiosk was designed by the architect Carl von Diebitsch and was originally shown at the Paris World Exhibition in 1867 as an official Prussian contribution . After the world exhibition, the railway contractor Bethel Henry Strousberg had the kiosk set up in the park of his Bohemian estate Sbirow .

After Strousberg's death, the kiosk was purchased on behalf of King Ludwig II for the parks of Linderhof Palace. At the Hennenkopf , near the Venus Grotto , which was built at the same time , the foundation was built on which the kiosk with its golden central dome and the likewise golden shimmering small minaret towers at the four corners was set up again.

The iron parts of the kiosk were cast in the iron foundry in Lauchhammer .

The decor was too simple for the king, so he ordered new lighting fixtures, a marble fountain and a luxurious peacock throne made in Paris, which was placed in a throne niche that was added to the kiosk.

At the end of 1877, the construction and equipment of the Moorish kiosk was completed and the garden architect Carl von Effner was commissioned to design the area.
