Baron Carl von Kuster (born July 21, jul. / 2. August  1820 greg. In Saint Petersburg , † December 2 jul. / 14. December  1893 greg. In Darmstadt ) was a German diplomat, Real Privy Councilor and Russian Imperial State , Naturalist and botanist .

Life

Carl von Kuster studied at the Ludwigs-University of Giessen and was pouring in on March 6, 1846 Dr. phil. PhD . He became a real privy councilor and Imperial Russian State Secretary and worked from 1857 to 1864 as director of the botanical garden in Saint Petersburg. From 1875 to 1881 the theater in Saint Petersburg was under his control.

On October 15, 1855, Carl von Küster with the academic surname Trinius II was accepted as a member (matriculation no. 1744) of the German Academy of Natural Scientists Leopoldina . The choice of his nickname was reminiscent of the doctor, poet and botanist Carl Bernhard Trinius, who worked in Saint Petersburg and died in 1844 .

Eduard August von Regel named the cycad Ceratozamia kuesteriana Regel 1857 in his honor in 1857.

His grave is in the family crypt (crypt 21) of the Barons von Küster in Frankfurt's main cemetery , where other members of his family also found their final resting place.
