Carla Marchelli (born April 1, 1935 in Genoa ) is a former Italian ski racer . Together with her older sister Maria Grazia , she was one of the best drivers in her country in the 1950s. Between 1954 and 1957 she was three times Italian champion in downhill and giant slalom .

Marchelli came from a wealthy family and originally grew up in the port city of Genoa . When the city was bombed during World War II , her parents and the entire family fled to Cortina d'Ampezzo in 1940 . It was there that Marchelli learned to ski as a teenager.

Three years after her sister, she became the first Italian champion in downhill skiing in 1954. She secured two more titles in giant slalom in 1955 and 1957. She celebrated her first significant international success in 1956 at the Winter Olympics in Cortina d'Ampezzo when she finished sixth in the downhill. In 1957 she won all four competitions at the SDS races in Grindelwald , and the downhill again a year later. She achieved the greatest success of her career with the bronze medal in the downhill at the 1958 World Cup in Bad Gastein . Marchelli was only the fourth Italian athlete to win a medal at the World Ski Championships.
