Alberto Delgado Pérez (born March 11, 1978 in Havana ) is a Cuban soccer player who has been under contract with Puerto Rico Islanders FC in the North American Soccer League since 2005 . The striker has been loaned out to Sevilla FC Bayamón since 2008 .

Career

society

Delgado played from 1998 to 2001 in the Campeonato Nacional de Fútbol , the highest Cuban league, for the Havana football team . In January 2002, he and his teammate Rey Ángel Martínez left the Cuban national team during the CONCACAF Gold Cup in Los Angeles in order to stay in the USA and start a professional career.

In the USA he played from 2004 first for Colorado Rapids in Major League Soccer . There he was after his compatriot Rey Ángel Martínez, the second Cuban in the history of the MLS. From 2005 to 2008 he played for Puerto Rico Islanders FC in the USL First Division , the then second tier in the American football league. In 2008 he was awarded to the Sevilla FC Bayamón in the Puerto Rico Soccer League , the 2008 newly introduced top professional division in Puerto Rico. The club immediately secured the first official championship, with Delgado scoring seven goals. This qualified the club for the CFU Club Championship 2009. The SFCB was eliminated in the first round after 3: 3 and 0: 2 against Hoppers FC from Antigua and Barbuda . The following season the club renamed itself Sevilla FC Juncos. The club just missed defending their title.

National team

Before moving abroad, Delgado was a regular member of the Cuban national soccer team . Between 1998 and 2002 he played a total of 22 games for his national team. Before that, he had already played through the association's youth teams. In the games for the national team, he scored four goals. In 1998 the attacker was in the squad for the Copa Caribe and the following year for the Pan American Games . In 2002 he was in the squad of Trainer Miguel Company at the CONCACAF Gold Cup . The offensive player made his tournament debut on January 21, 2002 against the USA . Delgado was also used in the second round game. Besides him, it was only Alexánder Cruzata , Alexander Driggs , Yénier Márquez , Odelín Molina and Liván Pérez who did not miss a single minute of the competition.
