Carles Trepat i Domingo (* 1960 in Lleida ) is a Catalan classical guitarist. Trepat is assigned to the Catalan Guitar School.

life and work

Trepat began his music studies in his hometown of Lleida with Jordi Montagut. In 1976 he completed the last guitar course that Emili Pujol gave in Cervera . He completed further postgraduate studies in Barcelona, ​​Alicante and Paris with, among others, José Tomás and Alberto Ponce .

At the age of eighteen he began his concert career. As the winner of the Concurs Permanent de Joventuts Musicals d'Espanya , he made his Madrid debut at the Teatro Real . Numerous other guitar awards followed, such as a prize at the Concurs de l'Havana or the 5th Toronto International Guitar Competition (1987). He gave concerts in music halls all over the world. He has appeared as a soloist with musical formations such as the English Chamber Orchestra , the Ciudad de Granada Orchestra and the OBC .

His discography includes the album Llora la guitarra (1999), in which he recorded 14 well-known songs by the Spanish composer Manuel Quiroga for guitar. Trepat also worked with the flamenco singer Duquende and the guitarist Tomatito , with whom he performed tangos by Astor Piazolla .

Trepat usually plays with a guitar built by Antonio de Torres in Almeria in 1892 or with a guitar made by Antonio Marín in Granada in 1989.
