Alberto Ponce

Alberto Ponce (actually Alberto González Muñoz , born March 13, 1935 in Madrid ; † July 26, 2019 ) was a Spanish guitarist , guitar teacher and university teacher .

Life

Ponce was born in Spain and, after moving from Madrid to Barcelona with his parents, received his first musical training at the Barcelona Conservatory from around 1948 . He then went to see Emilio Pujol , a student of Francisco Tárrega , with his father around 1955 , played the guitar for him and was then taught by him at the Conservatory in Lisbon and then at the Accademia Musicale Chigiana in Siena . In 1961 he was appointed professor of guitar at the Conservatoire de Paris and in 1962 at the École Normale de Musique de Paris , where he worked until the end. In 1962 Ponce won first prize in the French Radio International Guitar Competition.

Alberto Ponce had a great influence on contemporary guitar through his teaching activities and trained numerous internationally renowned guitarists, including

  • Jean-François Delcamp (* 1956), professor at the Conservatoire de Musique, de Danse et d'Art Dramatique de Brest métropole océane
  • Roland Dyens (1955–2016), professor at the Conservatoire de Paris and one of the most influential contemporary guitarists and composers for guitar
  • Luis Manuel Molina (* 1959), Cuban guitarist and composer
  • Kaori Muraji (* 1978), Japanese guitarist with numerous publications

Works for guitar by contemporary composers, including Antonio Ruiz-Pipó , Maurice Ohana and Roland Dyens, have been dedicated to Ponce . Ponce associated with artists such as Alexandre Tansman and Robert Vidal .
