Carlina barnebyana is a perennial subshrub that usually reaches heights of 5 to 15 centimeters. The stem is branched like a cushion and woody at the base. The leaves are narrowly linear-oblanceolate and balding. The outer bracts are 6 millimeters in size. The heads are individual and have a diameter of 15 to 20 millimeters. The fruits are 3 millimeters long, the pappus 8 millimeters.
The flowering time is in September.
The number of chromosomes is 2n = 18.
Occurrence
Carlina barnebyana occurs in the south-eastern Kardägäis . The species grows on rocky coasts (by the sea) of eastern Crete and Karpathos .
