Carlo Alberto Pinelli

Carlo Alberto Pinelli (born July 6, 1935 in Turin ) is an Italian documentary filmmaker , author and alpinist.

Life

Pinelli, the son of screenwriter Tullio , took part in archaeological expeditions to Turkey , Afghanistan and Pakistan as a young man after graduating from La Sapienza University in Indian and Central Asian art history. There followed a time as an assistant at this faculty, during which he was also the editor of the "Enciclopedia dell'Arte Antica" and the "Enciclopedia Italiana Treccani" edited by Ranuccio Bianchi Bandinelli .

Since 1961 Pinelli has made numerous works as a documentary film director on ethno-anthropological and socio-cultural topics; Among his around 120 works, some of which he realized with Folco Quilici , are: an eight-part Scoperta dell'India , a nine-part Islam , thirteen episodes of a La civiltà del Mediterraneo , Pianeta d'Acqua in five parts, and thirteen episodes of Vanishing Rainbows . In addition, long documentaries about the conquest of the pole and works on the traces of the orientalist Giuseppe Tucci in India , Nepal , Tibet and Pakistan were produced for RAI television . In the 1980s, medical-physiological films were also made on 35 mm. In 1989 a work about his father followed.

The enthusiastic alpinist Pinelli presented his first feature film in 2013 at the age of 78, La storia di Cino, il bambino che attraversò la montagna . He is also the author of seven books, several on alpine topics. He is one of the founders and representative of the Mountain Wilderness organization .
