Life

Quilici, son of the journalist Nello Quilici and the painter Emma Buzzacchi, attended the Centro Sperimentale di Cinematografia after starting out in the amateur film sector and from 1952 devoted himself to documentary film, to which he had remained faithful well into the new millennium in short, medium-length and some full-length works. He did fundamental work in the field of underwater photography.

His first feature film, Sesto continente , was released in 1954 , which was followed by a few more by the mid-1970s (almost always based on his own book, with his own camera work and edited himself), sometimes as a mixture of feature and documentary parts and also mostly set in a maritime environment. In addition to numerous short films, Quilici also worked as a second unit director for feature films such as Orca - The Killer Whale or Kaos . Between 1966 and 1978 he realized a series of fourteen documentaries for Esso that focused on aerial photographs and for which he collaborated with important writers and historians of his time. Also from the mid-1960s until 2010 he was responsible for a large number of television documentaries. His work has been awarded numerous prizes

In 2002 Quilici was awarded the NEOS Prize of the Italian Travel Journalists for his contributions to the subject. From 2003 to 2006 he was President of the Istituto Centrale per la ricerca Scientifica e Tecnologica Applicata al Mare . Lecturing activities complemented his work.

Since 1975, and especially in the new millennium, Quilici was also the author of numerous books that corresponded to his other work. In 2011 and 2012 children's books from his pen appeared.
