Life

Carlo Archinto came from a respected Italian aristocratic family who brought out several merit for their fatherland. Having trained in his hometown, he moved to the University of Ingolstadt . Then he continued his education while traveling.

After the travel time he founded the Society for Natural Sciences for the Advancement of Science in Italy. He donated instruments for mathematics and physics to society. He also excelled as a doctor, which is why he was in charge of the Ospedale Maggiore in Milan .

When the Italian scholar and clergyman Lodovico Antonio Muratori collected certain books from Italian libraries and wanted to publish these finds, he allied himself with Archinto and Donato Silva . This resulted in the Società Palatina , which was soon promoted by other nobles. Planning the publication of the work, Archinto, who associated with the Viennese imperial court, asked Charles VI. , your project may not be censored. Finally, the Società set up its own printing press and published valuable works, supported by Filippo Argelati .

Archinto worked in Milan in various public offices. Emperor Leopold I appointed him chamberlain . He was a Knight of the Order of the Golden Fleece and Grandee of Spain .

Archinto's notes on books 3 to 5 of the Chronicle of Arnulf of Milan were published in Volume IV of the Rerum Italicarum Scriptores . Nothing has survived of his handwritten works, which Argelati recorded.

Archinto's son Philip followed his father's office and died in September 1751; his second son, Alberico Archinto , later became a Catholic cardinal.
