Carlos Gámir Prieto

Carlos Gámir Prieto (born December 25, 1913 in Madrid ; † October 16, 2013 there ) was a Spanish diplomat .

Life

In 1940 Carlos Gámir Prieto was head of the Escuela Naval Militar. In 1943 he entered the diplomatic service. On January 21, 1944, Gámir Prieto was consul in Zurich and handled the export of Spanish woolen blankets to Bulgaria for 240,000 Swiss francs with Credit Suisse in Geneva . He was later accredited to the Spanish representations in Bern, Karachi , Bonn, Washington and as Counselor in 1958 in Buenos Aires.

From 1958 to 1968 he was Director General of the Economic Department in the Spanish Ministry of Foreign Affairs. With Decreto 239/1965 of February 11, 1965, Francisco Franco promoted Carlos Gámir Prieto from the Ministro Plentipotenciario de tercera clase to the Ministro Plentipotenciario de segunda clase . In November 1970 he was appointed consul and commercial attaché in Budapest. In 1973 Francisco Franco appointed him Spanish ambassador to the GDR . On January 2, 1977, Gámir Prieto was appointed spokesman for the Spanish Foreign Ministry. In early June 1978 he was appointed Spanish ambassador to Sweden.

Carlos Gámir Prieto's brother was Luis Gámir Prieto, the father of the future Minister Luis Gámir .
