Carlos María Enrique Diego Legrand

Carlos María Enrique Diego Legrand Lasserre (born November 1, 1901 in Montevideo , † December 6, 1986 ) was a Uruguayan botanist . Its botanical author abbreviation is " D.Legrand ".

Life

C. Diego Legrand, who often appeared as CD Legrand in addition to this name, was born in Montevideo as the son of Enrique Legrand and Enriqueta Lasserre, who came from France. He completed the advanced part of his school education in Europe. On April 9, 1927, he married Elba Castellanos Regules . From this marriage a son named Diego was born. Under the influence of Guillermo Herter (1884–1958), Legrand devoted himself to botany and achieved world fame there. This was based in particular on his research on the plant genus Portulaca and myrtle plants . From 1938 he was deputy director of the Museo Nacional de Historia Natural y Antropología . From 1951, after Ergasto Héctor Cordero's death, he was in charge of the museum until he retired on January 22, 1970. On July 31, 1958, the French government made him Knight of the Legion of Honor . In December 1972 he became Honorary Vice President of the First Latin American Congress of Botany (Primer Congreso Latino-Americano de Botánica) held in Mexico. Legrand published more than 80 scientific papers.
