Carlos Enrique José Pellegrini Bevans (born October 11, 1846 in Buenos Aires , Argentina , † July 17, 1906 in Buenos Aires) was President of Argentina from August 6, 1890 to October 12, 1892 .

Life

Pellegrini was born in Buenos Aires to Charles Henri (or Carlos Enrique) Pellegrini and his wife María Bevans Bright. His father, from Croglio , was an engineer who immigrated from Chambéry in Savoy , and his mother was from England. In 1863 Carlos Pellegrini began studying law at the University of Buenos Aires , which he interrupted to take part as a soldier in the Triple Alliance war against Paraguay .

After completing his studies in 1869 with his doctoral thesis ( El Derecho Electoral - "The right to vote") he worked in the Ministry of Finance of Argentina. In 1873 he was elected to parliament as a member of parliament for the province of Buenos Aires .

He was friends with the industrialist and founder of Banco Tornquist Ernesto Tornquist . Under his presidency, the main state bank, the Banco de la Nación Argentina , was created.

In 1871 he married Carolina Lagos García. The marriage remained childless. Pellegrini is buried in La Recoleta Cemetery in Buenos Aires.
