Carlos Spoerhase (born 1974 ) is a German literary theorist and professor of German studies at Bielefeld University .

Spoerhase studied German literature , philosophy as well as political theory and the history of ideas . He received his doctorate in 2006 from the Humboldt University in Berlin . Spoerhase completed his habilitation in 2016 at the Humboldt University in Berlin and in the same year accepted a professorship at the Johannes Gutenberg University Mainz . Since 2017 he has been a professor at Bielefeld University. Spoerhase has worked on guest residencies at Johns Hopkins University , King's College London and the University of Pennsylvania . He regularly overwritesContemporary literature and humanities for the Frankfurter Allgemeine Zeitung , the Süddeutsche Zeitung , the Merkur and New Left Review . Spoerhase is a member of the editorial team of the magazine for the history of ideas and co-editor of the German quarterly journal for literary studies and intellectual history .
