Carlos Varela (born September 15, 1977 in A Laracha ) is a Spanish football player who is under contract with FC Köniz in the 1st division promotion .

Career

Varela played for Servette Geneva at the age of 17 (1995 to the end of 1998). After half a year at FC Basel , he returned to Servette for one season (1999/2000) before moving back to Basel in July 2000. There he played until the end of the 2002/2003 season, in which he was also used six times in the UEFA Champions League . From 2003 to 2005 he played for FC Aarau before moving to the Young Boys in the 2005/2006 season. Overall, the versatile midfielder played more than 300 times in the first Swiss league and scored more than 40 goals. With the Young Boys he wore the shirt number 19 . On July 2, 2006, Varela scored the first goal on the new artificial turf in the Stade de Suisse in a 2-0 win in the Young Boys' friendly against Tunisian champions Espérance Sportive de Tunis .

Varela is a talented player who can embarrass the opposing defensive lines through his sprinter skills. However, he is also known for his emotional outbursts. In the 2008/09 season, after three games, he already had three warnings and a dismissal (red). Many experts see this as one of the main reasons why Varela has not played in one of the big leagues to this day.

In August 2010, Varela terminated his contract with Neuchâtel Xamax with immediate effect after he had recently repeatedly been noticed with unsportsmanlike conduct and was suspended for three games. He then went to DC United to return to his first professional station Servette in January 2011.

However, at the beginning of the 2011/12 season he no longer played a role in coach João Alves' plans , which is why he moved to FC Wohlen in the Challenge League , where he signed a contract until the end of the season. Wohler's trainer Urs Schönenberger criticized Varela in a Wohler magazine at the end of September. This led to Varela canceling his contract after three partial appearances (two in the championship and one cup game). Now the footballer suddenly switched to the Bern regional club FC Köniz .
