Carmen Ionesco

Carmen Ionesco , née Ionescu , (born July 28, 1951 in Bucharest ) is a former Canadian shot putter and discus thrower of Romanian origin.

At the 1972 Olympic Games in Munich, she finished seventh in the discus throw for Romania.

As the representative of her new home Canada, she won the 1978 Commonwealth Games in the discus throw and won silver in the shot put. The following year she won bronze in both disciplines at the 1979 Pan American Games in San Juan.

In 1982 she was fourth in discus throw and sixth in shot put at the Commonwealth Games in Brisbane . At the 1984 Olympic Games in Los Angeles, she was twelfth in the shot put and was eliminated in the qualifying discus throw. Her sister Florența Crăciunescu won bronze in the discus at these games.

She was the Canadian champion in discus throwing seven times (1973, 1975, 1978, 1979, 1981, 192, 1984) and four times in the shot put (1975, 1978, 1981, 1982).
