Franz A. Stein

Franz Alois Stein (born April 11, 1928 in Alzenau ; † January 13, 1999 in Regensburg ) was a German musicologist and music researcher.

Life

Stein grew up in Lower Franconia and later settled in Regensburg, where he worked as a musicologist, theater and music critic . His musicological focus was the research of church and instrumental music . He concentrated more and more on the Upper Palatinate area and particularly looked at the music in Regensburg.

Stein, who in 1956 at the University of Freiburg with the dissertation Das Moosburger Graduale for Dr. phil. received his doctorate, taught at the Academy for Catholic Church Music and Music Education and was also the Academy's deputy rector for some time. He also devoted himself eagerly to the reorganization and reorganization of the library. In addition to a few monographs, he published numerous articles in specialist journals. Among other things, he was editor of the magazine Musica sacra from 1980 to 1993 .

He died on January 13, 1999. The funeral service took place on January 22nd in the Trinity Church in Regensburg .
