Carmen Ottner (* in the 20th century in Vienna ) is an Austrian musicologist and theater scholar.

Life

Daughter of the Vienna Philharmonic, member of the State Opera Orchestra and professor at the then Academy for Music and Performing Arts (trombone) Franz Bahner and Gertrude geb. Teichl. After graduating from the humanistic grammar school Fichtnergasse in Vienna, studies from 1967 at the University of Vienna : music, theater studies, philosophy, supplemented by courses at the Vienna Music Academy with Friedrich Neumann, Erwin Ratz, Alfred Uhl. In 1974 she was awarded the dissertation The word-sound problem in the piano songs of Wilhelm KienzlPhD. After marrying her colleague Helmut Ottner and the birth of daughter Anita and son Oliver, she works freelance in the following institutions in Vienna: 1975–2010 as a member of the editorial team of the “Österreichische Musikzeitschrift”; 1985 – April 2017 as general secretary of the “Franz Schmidt Society” (here publication, author of the book series “Studies on Franz Schmidt” published by the “Doblinger” publishing house, as well as design of an annual concert and lecture series “Franz Schmidt Days” and nine symposia); from 1993 collaboration in the "Austrian Society for Music" as a board member, managing director, vice - and since June 2016 president (in addition to the program design, she also works as a speaker and moderator). 1995-1998 collaboration on the project "Special Research Area Modern: Vienna and Central Europe around 1900" (with a book publication, numerous essays and lectures on Franz Schreker's composition lessons and his most important students).
