T. Anjaiah

T. Anjaiah ( Tanguturi Anjaiah , Telugu : టంగుటూరి అంజయ్య ; * 1929 in the village of Bhanur, Medak district , today Telangana ; † October 1986 ) was an Indian politician of the Indian National Congress (INC), who was a member of the Rajya Sabha between 1978 and 1981 , 1980 Minister of State, from 1980 to 1982 Chief Minister of Andhra Pradesh and most recently a member of Lok Sabha between 1984 and his death in 1986 . At the same time he was again Minister of State from 1984 to 1986.

Life

Anjaiah completed his school education at the Sultan Bazar High School in Hyderabad , which he broke off, however, in order to devote himself to the basic attitude of Satyagraha developed by Mohandas Karamchand Gandhi . As early as 1942 he was involved in the "Quit India" movement and soon after was one of the co-founders of the trade union movement in the state of Hyderabad . He began his career as a union official at the Alwyn Metal Works Factory in Hyderabad for a daily wage of six annas . In 1952 he became president of the trade union federation INTUC (Indian National Trade Union Congress) in the state of Andhra Pradesh and held this position until 1958.

In 1957 Anjaiah was elected for the first time as a member of the Legislative Assembly of Andhra Pradesh for the Indian National Congress (INC) and was a member of this for more than twenty years until 1978. During this time he was also President of the Congress Party in that state from 1958 and served for the first time as Minister of Labor of the government of Andhra Pradesh from 1972 to January 1973 during the tenure of Chief Minister PV Narasimha Rao . In 1974 he was reappointed Minister of Labor in the government of that state by Chief Minister J. Vengala Rao and was a member of this government until December 1977.

On April 10, 1978 Anjaiah became a member of the Rajya Sabha, the upper house of the Indian Parliament , for the Congress Party and was a member of this until February 19, 1981.

During this time he was appointed on June 8, 1980 by Prime Minister Indira Gandhi as Minister of State for Labor in their third government and held this office until October 10, 1980.

After leaving the Union government, Anjaiah succeeded M. Chenna Reddy as Chief Minister of Andhra Pradesh on October 11, 1980 . He held this office until February 23, 1982 and was replaced by Bhavanam Venkataram Reddy the following day . At the same time he was again a member of the Legislative Assembly of Andhra Pradesh from 1981 to 1984.

In the elections in December 1984 Anjaiah was elected for the Indian National Congress in the constituency 8 Secunderabad, belonging to Andhra Pradesh, as a member of the Lok Sabha, the lower house of the Indian parliament, to which he belonged until his death in October 1986.

On December 31, 1984, he was appointed by Prime Minister Rajiv Gandhi to his government , where he was again Minister of State for Labor until his death.

His marriage to Maniama on May 23, 1954 resulted in a son and four daughters.
