M. Chenna Reddy

Marri Channa Reddy ( Telugu మర్రి చెన్నారెడ్డి ; born January 13, 1919 in Sirpur , Hyderabad , British India , today: Telangana ; † December 2, 1996 in Hyderabad , Andhra Pradesh , today: Telangana) was an Indian politician of the National Congress (INC) who was Minister for Steel, Mining and Metals between 1967 and 1968, twice Chief Minister of Andhra Pradesh and Governor of various states .

Life

Reddy, son of Shri M. Lakshma Reddy, completed a degree in medicine , which he completed in 1941 with a Bachelor of Medicine, Bachelor of Surgery (MBBS). He then worked as a doctor. After the constitution of India came into force on January 26, 1950, he first became a member of the Provisional Parliament and was a member of it until 1951. He was then elected a member of the Legislative Assembly of Andhra Pradesh in 1951 and was a member of it after his re-elections in 1956, 1962 and 1967 until he resigned in 1967. He was Minister in the Hyderabad State Government from 1952 to 1956 and in the Andhra Pradesh State Government from 1962 to 1967.

1967 Reddy was of Prime Minister Indira Gandhi to the Minister of Steel, mining and metals in their first cabinet appointed and has held this ministerial office to a cabinet reshuffle to 1968. In addition, he was between 27 March 1967 and 26 November 1968, the Rajya Sabha on , the second chamber of parliament .

On October 25, 1974, he succeeded Akbar Ali Khan as governor of Uttar Pradesh , which he held until his replacement by Ganpatrao Devji Tapase on October 2, 1977. On March 6, 1978, he succeeded J. Vengala Rao as Chief Minister of Andhra Pradesh for the first time and held this office until his replacement by T. Anjaiah on October 11, 1980. He replaced Aminuddin Ahmad Khan as governor of Punjab on April 21, 1982 and remained in this position until he was replaced by Surjit Singh Sandhawalia on February 7, 1983.

Reddy took over on December 3, 1989 from NT Rama Rao for the second time as Chief Minister of Andhra Pradesh and held this office until December 17, 1990, whereupon N. Janardhana Reddy was his successor. On February 5, 1992, he succeeded Sarup Singh as Governor of Rajasthan and remained in this position until he was replaced by Dhanik Lal Mandal on May 31, 1993. On May 31, 1993, he succeeded Bhishma Narain Singh as Governor of Tamil Nadu and held the office until December 2, 1996, after which Krishan Kant was his successor. In addition, he was the successor of Bhishma Narain Singh between May 31, 1993 and his replacement by Rajendra Kumari Bajpai on May 2, 1995 in personal union also Vice Governor of Puducherry . At the same time, he acted as the successor to Rajendra Kumari Bajpai from November 10th until his renewed replacement by Rajendra Kumari Bajpai on December 2nd, 1996, also temporarily as vice governor of the Andaman and Nicobar Islands .

His marriage to Shrimati M. Savithri Devi had two sons and a daughter.
