Life

K. Rosaiah was born on July 4, 1933 in the village of Vemuru in the Guntur district in the coastal region of what is now the state of Andhra Pradesh . He comes from a middle class farming family. K. Rosaiah completed his education with a bachelor's degree in economics from the Hindu College in Guntur . During his student days he was active in university politics and in 1952 was elected Secretary General of the student council at his college.

In 1968 K. Rosaiah was elected for the first time for the Congress Party in the Upper House ( Legislative Council ) of the state parliament of Andhra Pradesh, in 1974 and 1980 the re-election took place. From 1978 to 1979 he served as an opposition leader in the House of Lords. In 1979 the Chief Minister ( Prime Minister ) M. Chenna appointed Reddy K. Rosaiah as Minister of Roads and Construction. In the following T. Anjaiah government, he held the post of housing and transport minister from 1980 to 1981. He was Minister of the Interior from 1982 to 1983 under K. Vijayabhaskar Reddy . In the elections in Andhra Pradesh in 1983, the Congress Party was replaced by the Telugu Desam Party in government, whereby Rosaiah lost his ministerial office. Instead, he took over the office of opposition leader in the House of Lords until this was abolished in 1985.

In 1989, K. Rosaiah successfully competed in the Chirala constituency in the election to the House of Commons ( Legislative Assembly ) of the Andhra Pradesh Parliament. As a result of the election, the Congress Party returned to power and M. Chenna Reddy became Chief Minister for the second time. In his government K. Rosaiah served as Minister of Finance, Energy, Transport, Higher Education, Weaving, Textiles and Legislative Affairs until 1990. After Chenna Reddy was replaced by N. Janardhana Reddy , Rosaiah served as Minister of Health from 1991 to 1992. In 1992, K. Vijayabhaskar Reddy was again Chief Minister. In his government, Rosaiah was Minister of Finance, Energy and Health until 1994.

In the elections in Andhra Pradesh in 1994, the Congress party was voted out again, and K. Rosaiah also lost his constituency to the candidate of the Telugu Desam Party. Instead he took over the office of chairman of the Congress Party in Andhra Pradesh from 1995 to 1997. In 1998 he took part in the all- India parliamentary elections in the constituency of Narasaraopet and made it into the Lok Sabha (the lower house of the all-India parliament). In the new election in 1999 he did not run again. Instead, he tried to get back into parliament in the state election in Andhra Pradesh, which took place at the same time, but was again defeated by the candidate of the victorious Telugu Desam Party. It was not until the next election in 2004, which the Congress Party won, that he managed to return to the constituency of Chirala. He then became Minister of Finance, Planning, Legislative Affairs, Health and Family Welfare in the YS Rajasekhara Reddy government . After the end of the legislative period, Rosaiah was elected to the House of Lords, which has now been reinstated. He retained his ministerial office in the government of YS Rajasekhara Reddy, which had been confirmed in office in the general election.

K. Rosaiah presents an award in his capacity as governor of Tamil Nadu (November 8, 2011).

On September 2, 2009, Chief Minister YS Rajasekhara Reddy was killed in a helicopter crash. A day later, K. Rosaiah was sworn in as his successor as Chief Minister. After only 14 months in office, Rosaiah resigned on November 24, 2010. The reason given by the now 77-year-old Rosaiah was his advanced age and work pressure. He was succeeded by N. Kiran Kumar Reddy . After the end of his partisan career in Andhra Pradesh, K. Rosaiah was appointed governor of the state of Tamil Nadu on August 26, 2011 by President Pratibha Patil .
