Carmen Rohrbach

Carmen Rohrbach (born July 1948 in Bischofswerda ) is a German biologist and travel writer .

Carmen Rohrbach was born in Bischofswerda and studied biology in Greifswald and Leipzig . During her flight from the GDR across the Baltic Sea, she was caught and spent two years in prison. She was ransomed in 1976 and expelled from the GDR. She then worked on behavioral biology at the Max Planck Institute for Behavioral Physiology in Seewiesen near Munich, where she received her doctorate in 1980 on the subject of studies on the Bruce effect in gerbils .

Among other things, she explored the life of marine iguanas on the Galápagos Islands and undertook numerous expeditions to Asia, Africa, South America and Arabia, which she reports as a travel writer.
