Carna (deity)
Carna was one of the many "little" goddesses in Roman mythology . She was the goddess of the heart and the other organs and the patroness of health.
Their feast, Carnaria , was celebrated on the calends of Junius , June 1st . This day was considered the day of the foundation of the temple of the goddess on Caelius by Lucius Junius Brutus , the first consul of the Roman Republic shortly after the expulsion of the Tarquinians . On this day, simple dishes made from bacon and beans are prepared and both the carna are offered and eaten, which is why the festival is also called Kalendae fabariae ("first bean").
Ovid mixed Carna with Cardea , the goddess of door hinges and thresholds.
