Carol Lewis
Carol Lewis ( Carol LeGrant Lewis ; born August 8, 1963 in Birmingham , Alabama ) is a former American long jumper .
Career
At the Liberty Bell Classic held in Moscow because of the US boycott of the 1980 Olympic Games , she won silver and bronze at the 1983 World Athletics Championships in Helsinki.
In 1984 she was ninth at the Olympic Games in Los Angeles . Four years later she was eliminated from the preliminary round of the Olympic Games in Seoul .
She was US champion four times outdoors (1982, 1983, 1985, 1986) and indoors (1983–1985, 1991).
Carol Lewis is the daughter of Evelyn Lawler , who was successful as a track and field athlete in the early 1950s, and the sister of Olympic sprint and long jump champion Carl Lewis . During her college days she started for the University of Houston , then for the Santa Monica Track Club. After her active career, she became a sports commentator for NBC television .
