Carol Plantamura (born February 8, 1941 in Los Angeles ) is an American singer ( soprano ).

Plantamura graduated from Occidental College and then became a founding member of the Creative Associates at SUNY Buffalo under the direction of Lukas Foss . Then she moved to Italy, where she founded the Ensemble Musica Elettronica Viva in 1966 . She also worked in the Ensemble Intercontemporain and the Gruppo di Improvvisazione Nuova Consonanza as an interpreter of new music and improviser. a. with Pierre Boulez , John Cage , Luciano Berio , Pauline Oliveros , Betsy Jolas , Bernard Rands and Vinko Globokar . But she also sang in opera houses. With the Five Centuries Ensemble she interpreted music from the 17th to the 20th century. She has made more than 25 recordings for labels such as Wergo , Deutsche Grammophon , Fonit / Cetra, CRI and Leonarda. From 1978 until her retirement as a professor at the University of California, San Diego .
